Privacy policy
What we collect, and what we don't.
Effective date: November 1, 2024. Last updated: November 1, 2024.
Ford & Oak Coffee Roasters ("Ford & Oak," "we," "us") is a small business owned and operated by Derrick Demond Ford at 507 N 6th Street, Homer, Louisiana 71040, United States. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit davidmckibben.com, place an order over the phone or email, or stop by the café — and what we do with it.
1. Who this policy covers
It covers everyone who interacts with us through this website, by phone, by email, or in person at the café. We are the data controller for that information. If you'd rather not read the rest of this page, the short version is: we collect as little as we can get away with and we don't sell it.
2. What we collect
- Contact details you give us — your name, email address, phone number and shipping address when you place an order or send us a message.
- Order details — what you bought, when, and how it was paid for. Card data is handled by our payment processor and never stored on our servers.
- Site usage — basic, aggregated analytics such as which pages were viewed, what browser and country the request came from, and whether you arrived from a search engine or another site.
- Cookies — see our Cookie Notice for the full list.
3. Why we use it
- To fulfill orders, ship coffee, send order confirmations and respond to questions.
- To keep the shop running — accounting, tax filings, fraud prevention.
- To improve the site — understanding which pages help and which don't.
- To send occasional emails about new coffees, but only if you've asked us to. There's an unsubscribe link in every one.
4. Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers we need to operate:
- Our payment processor, to charge cards.
- The United States Postal Service, to ship orders.
- Our email provider, to send order confirmations.
- Our analytics provider, for the aggregated site stats described above.
- Our accountant, who is bound by professional confidentiality.
We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, ever. We will disclose information only when required to by valid legal process, and we will tell you unless prohibited from doing so.
5. How long we keep it
Order records are kept for seven years to satisfy United States tax law. Marketing list entries are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is kept for fourteen months in aggregated form. Anything else is deleted when it's no longer needed.
6. Your choices
You may at any time:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
- Ask us to delete what we hold, subject to the seven-year tax record requirement.
- Opt out of marketing emails, with one click or by replying "unsubscribe".
- Decline non-essential cookies through our cookie banner.
California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and Utah residents have specific rights under their state privacy laws — we honor all of them. To exercise any right, email admin@davidmckibben.com and we'll respond within thirty days.
7. Children
Our site and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen. If you believe we have, please contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Security
We use HTTPS across the entire site. Order records sit on a managed database with encryption at rest. Payment data is handled exclusively by our PCI-compliant processor. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps and follow the same practices we'd want followed with our own information.
9. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we'll post the new version here and update the "last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be announced by email to customers who have ordered from us in the prior twelve months.
